Out and about.

So, last week we went on what is called a "walking tour" with the dts students. We went to North Beach (aka the 'Little Italy' of San Fran) and saw the sites. I took less pictures of the sites and more of us, as I usually do. So, let me introduce you to a few of our wonderful students:

This lovely lady here on my left is Ms. Heidi. As you can see, she poses near the Italian flag that wraps around every telephone pole in the area. Delightful!

Here is a shot of me and Sara. We are standing in Washington Square, where many parrots like to dwell among the trees. You can see them swoop around from time to time.

Stephanie isn't the brat that she makes herself out to be in this picture....she is actually quite a gem.
Here is Mayra and I waiting for the bus to come to take us up to Coit Tower.

This is Sarah Johnson at the Coit Tower lookout (a lovely view of San Francisco, the bay, Alcatraz, etc.). She was tired of the sun and fresh air, so it seems.

This is Tyler! He is the only boy on our school. God has blessed him with much patience...

Below is Erin and I. We had reached the top of Coit Tower at this point and here we are enjoying the beautiful scenery!

There are 4 others that I don't have pictures of yet. Tonight me, two girls on staff, and three of the DTS students are going out for female prostitute ministry. It's only the girls' second time to go out. I love seeing God give them a heart for the women on the streets, but it's always a challenge too...to see such pain and be able to learn to see God in the midst of it, and His hope and promise despite the darkness. It's a really good time for God to grow our faith...I keep praying that we can find more ways to be an encouragement to these women and be able to share whatever we have that God has given us, whether it be gifts or just the understanding of who He is and what He can do.
That is all for now!

Second week of DTS

So, we've just finished our second week of Discipleship Training School. There will be a total of 11 weeks here in San Francisco and then 8 weeks overseas. I must say, at the end of these first two weeks, I am exhausted. I stress myself out sometimes, and it's a lot to be aware of what God is doing in my own life, but to be aware and sensitive to what God is doing in 11 other lives in addition...is a whole new challenge for me. I love being able to be a part of their lives, and yet I need to find a good balance and not let the emotions take over. It's so important for me to let God take anything that might be a burden.

The students are wonderful. We have ten girls and only one boy! They've already been experiencing new challenges, for instance, living in a room with four other girls when you've had a room by yourself for your whole life is quite a challenge!

I am feeling under the weather this weekend...I may have even caught me some strep throat. I'm hoping to get past it before Monday and the new week.

So, with that, I'm going to relax...put on a movie and go to bed early tonight!
